An automatic door makes entrances easier for patients, customers and staff carrying things. The main choice is between a sliding door and a swing door, and it depends mostly on the space around your entrance.
Sliding or swing?
| Sliding automatic door | Swing automatic door | |
|---|---|---|
| Space needed | Wall space beside the door for the panel to slide | Space in front of or behind the door for it to swing |
| Best for | Shop fronts, clinics, lobbies, busy entrances | Office doors, corridors, existing single doors |
| Uses existing door | Usually a new glass panel | Often fits the existing door |
| Traffic | High | Low to medium |
Where each one fits
- Clinics and pharmacies: sliding doors suit patients with walkers or wheelchairs.
- Offices: swing door operators can be fitted to existing doors, with a touchless button or card reader.
- Condo lobbies: sliding doors with access control so only residents can enter.
- Shops: sliding doors keep air-conditioning in while staying open to customers.
Sensors and safety
- A motion sensor opens the door as people approach.
- A safety sensor stops the door from closing on someone standing in the doorway.
- A touchless exit button is useful in clinics and food premises.
- Ask about battery backup so the door can still open during a power cut.
Add access control
An automatic door can open by face recognition, card or PIN after office hours. Pair it with a ZKTeco access control reader.
