A video intercom lets you see and talk to visitors at the gate, open the gate or door, and answer from your phone when you are away. Here is how to choose the right setup for a landed house or villa.
2-wire or IP intercom?
| 2-wire | IP (network) | |
|---|---|---|
| Cable | Uses 2 existing wires | Network cable (PoE) |
| Best for | Replacing an old intercom | New houses and renovations |
| Phone app | Yes, with Wi-Fi indoor station | Yes |
| Add more monitors | Limited | Easy |
What you need
- Door station at the gate: weatherproof, with camera, call button and optional card or PIN.
- Indoor monitor in the living room, plus extra monitors upstairs or in the kitchen if needed.
- Gate or door release: the intercom can trigger your auto gate or an EM lock.
- Phone app: answer the door and open the gate when you are not at home.
Tips for Malaysian houses
- Mount the door station facing away from direct afternoon sun so faces stay clear.
- If your gate is far from the house, IP or Wi-Fi models avoid running long intercom cables.
- Link the intercom with your CCTV so you can see the gate camera on the same monitor.
